apache commons - Python equivalent of PropertyUtilsBean -

I was thinking, is there a python equivalent for Apache Commons' Property Internet Bean?

Edit:
For example, I want to be able to do this assignment 

  xy [2] .z = V

given "y [2] .z" as a string.
Please note, I am only asking because I do not want to change the wheel again :)

When this happens, why do you need such a thing?
