mariadb - Want to join an open-source project but would like suggestions that fit my particular skill set -
I know that this may be a duplicate question but this question is very specific for my skill set.
I want to be involved in an open source software project. I am a professional software developer and graduate student (Master of Science in Software Engineering) and professional (in my day job), I work with ASP.Net, ASP / VBSSP and SQL Server.
I recently took my first graduate course and presented the course, and it opened my eyes for the power and greatness of open source software. I always respect Firefox and Subversion - big name - But he gave me more insights.
I want to be involved in a project that I can be productive but I can still learn. As the project is developing in the beginning, but showing promise (if it fails or stops, I will get a new one). I like the project in the Linux community but hopefully it will work on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
The following technologies are known to me.
IDE
- Visual Studio 2005/2008
- Netbins
- Excode
- Notepad :-)
I know that this question is some subjective but the answer would be best if I in a project update : I still have not got a project that can fit me. Both the projects mentioned earlier, both Mariadi and Mono are good options, but they are a bit more mature, with whom I will get comfort. Besides, I know there is a politics when join a project. But the good thing about open source is that I can start taking part without the full (or 1/2) "member" of the team. Just start learning the codebase and contribute to the core team ... it would be enough for me.
Based on my skill set, my recommendation will work with many open source projects. You have experience with C, both use Mingav and MSVC to use that knowledge in the native porting with libraries, which only compile using Amingview or using only MSWC. It contributes to the overall cross-stage nature of the Libs and becomes acquainted with them. Once you are familiar with them, you can help expand the functionality. This will allow you to learn and contribute at the same time. There are quite a few keys, so I do not live in a big list. I will refer to MySQL / Mariadi Bibi because I know that from experience they do not compile well under MSVC. Anyway, my 2 cents ....
