How does the youtube iphone app work -

I want to apply for a YouTube app like iphone, where some videos are streamed / downloaded from a video site . But by looking at the YouTube app, I doubt it.

I searched around Google, and it seems that there is no support for running the flaw file in the IPI. So how is YouTube app video running? Where does encoding happen?
